Going mobile
You’re dating yourself if the song from The Who is going through your head after reading the headline of this editorial. Hmmm…maybe I am dating myself with the reference!
ODs at ASCRS, take two
A few days ago, I returned from Boston where I attended the IOMED program at the 40th annual American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) meeting. Before I began writing this editorial, I reread what I had written after last year’s meeting (“Optometry at the ASCRS meeting,” May 2013). I had closed with, “I hope next year’s meeting builds on what took place in San Francisco, with a big emphasis on partnering, not employing.”

New grad website launches
NewGradOptometry.com recently launched, joining its sister site OptometryStudents.com. Why has Demodex gone viral?
Although the Demodex mite is not a recent discovery, you might not realize that by the rapid rise of demodex in the ophthalmic professional sphere. From peer-reviewed journal articles to lectures at professional meetings to chatter on the exhibit hall floor to thought-leader informational videos, Demodex has been a popular topic for the past 12-18 months.
Second IOMED program at ASCRS meeting
Next month in Boston, the American Society of Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) will host optometrists its second Integrated Ophthalmic Managed Delivery Model (IOMED) track at the group’s annual meeting. The format will be similar to last year’s meeting with a half-day symposium as well as courses that will be available for optometrists to earn CE credit.
Transitioning into the retail arena
Except for a 6-month stint at an optical more than 20 years ago, I haven’t spent much time in that part of the industry. It’s time I did. Plus, we’re going to step up coverage in our pages and online presence as well. I hope you’ve already noticed the new look of our InDispensable news and product section.
