    Future of corneal tomography

CSO, which has a background in measuring and analysing the anterior corneal surface has extended its research to the posterior surface with its new device SIRIUS.

The combined technologies based on both the Scheimpflug principle and Placido reflection add information on corneal thickness, curvature, altimetry and refractive power on the posterior surface to the information already available on traditional topographers with Placido disk. The combination of both methodologies allows doctors to measure the whole cornea surface up to 12 mm diameter.

The system is based on two cameras. One controls the correct working distance and the second central one for the correct alignment of the eye. Sirius is able to compensate possible patient's movements that can occur during the acquisition time.

An integrated pupillography module allows for measurements on dimension and decentralization of the pupil in a controlled environment: the combination of a corneal tomographer and a pupillographer provides extremely significant information on the visual quality.
