Put Your Plastic to Work. Shopping opportunities abound in the "City by the Bay"

Before you leave your heart in San Francisco, you'll probably leave some of your hard-earned money in the city by the Bay. San Francisco is just the place to be with shopping hot spots such as the must-see Union Square, Pier 39, Embarcadero Center, and a wealth of sites at which to splurge.

Check out Sacramento Street, Hayes Street, and Union Street for a haven of clothing and furnishings. To find original art, visit the galleries near Union Square. And 17 antique shops are centered at the 400 block of Jackson Street.

Meeting Guide
ASOA meeting

Physicians are invited to attend program offerings of the ASOA. One of the highlights of the ASOA meeting is its Opening General Session and Grand Rounds, which is being held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Salons 7 to 9 at the Marriott San Francisco. The program will feature the President's Address, the announcement of new officers, and presentation of the William E. Rose Jr. Pinnacle Award to ophthalmology practices with exemplary billing practices and compliance with government regulations.

ASCRS meeting guide
San Francisco - The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) bring their joint meeting back to California in 2003 to the Mos- cone Convention Center in the beautiful bay city of San Francisco.

The physicians’ scientific program kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, and continues until Tuesday, April 15, when the final session is scheduled to end at 4:30 p.m. Film festival winners will also be available for viewing on Wednesday, April 16, between 8 and 11:30 a.m.

The annual ASCRS symposium is packed with a variety of types of educational opportunities through which attendees can learn the latest about new surgical techniques, technological advances, and practice management issues. Between attending scientific paper sessions, computer labs, courses, and symposia, attendees should mark their meeting calendars so that they do not miss any of the following special events.

Monday April 14
The honor of presenting the 2003 Charles D. Kelman Innovator's Lecture has been given to anterior segment surgery pioneer Ioannis Pallikaris, MD. His presentation, entitled "Refractive Surgery, Quo Vadis," will be the concluding highlight of the Innovator's Session held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Saturday April 12
The ASCRS opening general session will begin at 1 p.m. and run until 2:30 p.m.
Physicians' Program

In addition to symposia sponsored by various professional organizations and societies, a number of ASCRS Clinical Com- mittee Symposia will be held throughout the physicians' program.
