Researchers, scientists flock to East Coast for ARVO 2017

‘Global Connections’ theme emphasizes scientific teamwork for advancing vision science

Light-based treatment strategies for blinding eye disease

    Sunday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This symposium will bring together experts to discuss pathways and opportunities for minimally invasive emerging and future light-based strategies to prevent vision loss from diseases including tumors, corneal disease, glaucoma, and diseases of the retina.

Homologies between the brain and the eye: Can ocular researchers lead the way or are we following our “brainy” colleagues?

    Sunday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This symposium will allow participants to connect their ocular focus with current brain research to identify which recent advances in the brain -- if any -- can be applied to the eye.

Genes and disease: How knowledge of genetics can guide treatment, now and in the future

    Thursday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This symposium will examine how variations that cause disease are discovered, mechanisms of how genetic variations contribute to diseases of the eye, the hurdles to treatment, and the current and future ways this information can be used to manage and treat disorders of the visual system.

The global problem of antibiotic resistance: Impact on ocular health worldwide and researching alternatives

    Thursday, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

This symposium will discuss the current epidemiological trends in antibiotic resistance worldwide and highlight novel and alternative research strategies that aim to circumvent the problem of antibiotic resistance.
