Researchers, scientists flock to East Coast for ARVO 2017

‘Global Connections’ theme emphasizes scientific teamwork for advancing vision science

Photo: Sean Pavone/Shutterstock.comThe annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) continues to explore new cities after spending many years in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This year’s installment will be held May 6 to 11 at the Baltimore Convention Center, and will feature the theme “Global Connections in Vision Research,” in recognition of the fact that successful science requires strong global connections--among researchers, across disciplines, and between generations.

The 2017 meeting will bring together more than 11,000 eye and vision researchers and clinicians to explore cutting-edge clinical science. They will discuss the challenges faced in bridging gaps in scientific knowledge, creating effective collaborations, and keeping younger people engaged in research careers.

ARVO is the largest gathering of eye and vision researchers in the world, attracting more than 11,000 attendees from more than 75 countries. According to event organizers, nearly half of the attendees come from outside the United States.
